The Cost of Vandalism

Posted on

All vandalism affects the community. There are financial costs to replace damaged trees, fix roads and parking lots, and to remove graffiti and stickers from public property, which can add up to tens of thousands of dollars. Private property owners also incur costs to repair vandalism on their property.

If you see vandals in the act call 911. Graffiti is a criminal offence under the Canadian Criminal Code and is also subject to a $200 ticket under the Village’s Nuisance Bylaw.

If you want to report a suspect of graffiti or vandalism, please call the RCMP non-emergency line at 250-338-1321 or you can report anonymously to CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Comox Valley Crime Stoppers is a non-profit organization that takes calls from people who want to report a crime and wish to remain totally anonymous. Comox Valley Crime Stoppers is one way that citizens can assist law enforcement by providing information and never having to identify themselves or testify in court.

Please report damaged infrastructure to the Village office at 250-336-2291 or to info@nullcumberland.ca.
