Basketball and Racquet Court Upgrades Complete at Cumberland’s Village Park

Posted on

Cumberland, BC – Much needed upgrades to Cumberland’s basketball and racquet courts at Village Park are now complete. The upgrades include a new racquet court configuration maximizing the existing space for one tennis court and two pickleball courts. The new layout reduces the likelihood of errant balls disrupting adjacent games.

Use of the courts will remain on a first come, first served basis. Players are asked to follow the court etiquette of a 30 minute maximum play if other players are waiting.

The $62,000 project took six week to complete and focused on court surface upgrades, new tennis and pickleball nets, and a chain link fence to separate the new pickleball courts. Minor fence and gate repairs were also completed. The new surfacing involved specialized court crack system, application of four coats of sand-infused acrylic court resurfacer, blue inbound and green out of bounds surface colours, and line painting.

The project was funded from a combination of internal Village reserves and funds received each year through the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre host community agreement.
