Burning Notice for Bevan Road and Whyte’s Bay Area
Posted on
In mid November 2014, residents should expect to see smoke north and west of the Village from open burning of forestry operations slash debris.
The Village is working closely with Hancock Forest Management to help reduce the impact on Cumberland residents, and burning will only take place if conditions are suitable. Hancock Timber Resource crews will monitor the burning with the assistance of the Cumberland Fire Department.
Local governments in BC have limited control over forest management activities on private managed forest land. Hancock Timber Management is cooperating with the Village by burning this slash debris in the fall and winter months to help reduce the risk of summer forest fires, which could be a more serious threat to the community.
