Cumberland Celebrates New Community Playground on February 22nd

Posted on

P1000441Cumberland Village Council invites residents to Village Park on Saturday, February 22 at 11 a.m. to celebrate the opening of the community’s new playground. Refreshments will be served at the celebration.

Council members will be joined by Ms. Kim Sleno, Rotary Club of Cumberland Centennial president, and Mr. Don McRae, MLA for Comox Valley. The Rotary Club, along with the Province of BC and Tire Stewardship BC, provided key funding toward the project.

The long awaited playground has been a smash hit with kids of all ages since it was opened last month.

In the spring of 2013, Cumberland children had the opportunity to help choose what elements would be featured in the playground with the most popular choices being a zipline , track ride, spinners, swings, and slides. Many kids answering the survey also asked that the Village “bring back the merry-go-round”. As a result, the new playground has both traditional and innovative equipment, including a zipline, an OmniSpin spinner and saddle spinners, a four-person seesaw, swings, slides, monkey bars and many other favourite play features. The playground surface is a combination of recycled pour-in-place rubber and engineered wood fibre.
