In 2015 the Village of Cumberland withdrew from the Comox Valley Economic Development Society. As part of Council’s 2016 Strategic Priorities the Village is exploring new models of providing economic development services.
In order to help move this initiative forward, and with funding provided through a grant from the Rural Dividend Fund, the Village has hired EcoPlan, a small Vancouver-based planning firm with community and economic development experience on Northern Vancouver Island.
Research and evaluation guided by community engagement will be used to identify some possible models that work for Cumberland. A final recommendation will be made based on which model best supports community values, along with other considerations such as feasibility and cost, and the final report will include an implementation plan to move the project forward.
This fall, look for opportunities to give your input! We want to hear from the entire community.
