Located in the beautiful Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, the Village of Cumberland (cumberland.ca) is a progressive and growing municipality known for its unique mixture of heritage architecture, proximity to outstanding outdoor recreation and world-class arts and music. Cumberland is the youngest and fastest growing municipality in the Comox Valley, with the number of children under 15 years of age above both the provincial and federal average.

The Village is looking to attract a progressive and accomplished professional as its Planner. Reporting to the Manager of Development Services, the Planner is responsible for analysis and processing of development applications, the preparation of various types of community planning reports, public presentations and the provision of technical advice to customers inside and outside the organization.

The position acts as file manager for property files which include development, development variance and building permits, including application processing, review and analysis. The position involves specialized knowledge and the application of social, economic, physical and environmental information of studies and reports connected with the land use and development in the Village. This position includes tasks such as conducting background research, review of applications for permits, and responds to public inquiries.

To qualify you will have a University Degree in Land Use Planning or a related discipline, and eligible for membership in the Planning Institute of British Columbia and the Canadian Institute of Planners. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

This is a Union position and subject to the Collective Agreement between the Village of Cumberland and CUPE Local 556. The salary for this position will be $37.41 per hour with benefits and increases as per the Collective Agreement.
