Federal Community Works Funds Support Local Infrastructure Projects

Posted on

Through the fall and winter of 2020, a new water main, new storm sewer main, and road reconstruction took place on Derwent Avenue between Fifth and Sixth Streets as part of the Village’s annual road and utility upgrades for 2020.

The $244,354 project was funded with $141,360 from Community Works Funds received from the Government of Canada.

Community Works Funds are provided by way of a transfer of Federal Gas Tax Funds to local governments to provide a source of stable, predictable, and long-term funding towards environmentally sustainable infrastructure. The Village of Cumberland receives an allocation of funds each year based on a per capital formula.
