Parks & Public Works Summer Student/Youth Worker

The Village of Cumberland is hiring two seasonal positions—one in the Parks Department and one in Public Works—from May to the end of August. These roles offer the opportunity to work outdoors, develop practical skills, and be part of a team that maintains and enhances the Village’s parks, trails, roads, and infrastructure. Key responsibilities include:
• Assisting with landscaping, mowing, and general park maintenance.
• Supporting road and infrastructure maintenance and repairs.
• Operating small tools and equipment under supervision.
• Maintaining public spaces by removing litter and debris.
• Assisting with special projects and seasonal tasks as needed.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
• Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
• Experience in landscaping, grounds maintenance, or general construction.
• Familiarity with safe work practices and procedures.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a public setting with patience, respect, and tact.
• Sufficient physical strength, stamina, and coordination to perform manual outdoor work in all weather conditions.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• A valid Class 5 or 7 driver’s license with a clean abstract.
• Must be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment, as required by the Canada Summer Jobs Grant.
