Litter Collection Program

Cumberland not-for-profit organizations are invited to submit an application to be a partner in the Litter Collection Program.

This is a public service program to enhance local litter collection activities by picking litter the following routes:

Route Name Route Details Total Distance Collection Required
1. Cumberland/ Bevan Corridor Cumberland Road from Highway 19 on/off ramps to Bevan Road; Bevan Road from Cumberland Road to Pidgeon Lake Road 3.5 km twice a month
2. Royston and Cumberland Road Arterials Cumberland Road from Bevan Road to the Peace Park; Royston Road Village Park to the Highway 19 overpass 1.5 km once a month

This program is only open to not-for-profit organizations that

  • Are active in or provide community programs in Cumberland
  • Are able to provide a minimum 6 volunteers per collection organization, plus 3 backup volunteers
  • provide volunteers of a minimum of 12 years of age; and adult supervision at a maximum of 3 youth per supervisor
  • Are willing and able to obtain the required equipment and insurance; and the use of an appropriate vehicle for the transport of garbage to the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre
  • comply with safety training requirements for volunteers
