Forestry Harvesting Operations Taking Place South of the Village

Posted on

Trails users of the Cumberland Community Forest and of Hancock Forestry lands are asked to use caution as harvesting operations have commenced on land located immediately south of the Village and will continue into the week of January 12, 2015.

Logging trucks are also travelling on roads through this area south and southeast of the Village to the Trent main.

Hancock Forestry will be proceeding to harvest timber in other areas surrounding the Village through the winter, including areas near Comox Lake, Comox Valley Parkway, Inland Island Highway and Bevan Road.

Hancock Timber Management presented its harvesting operation plan at the Council meeting of December 8, 2014. Hancock has confirmed that harvesting will not take place on its lands targeting for acquisition by the Cumberland Community Forest Society.

The United Riders of Cumberland are working with Hancock and its contractors to re-establish mountain bike trails in the harvesting areas.

Local governments in BC have limited control over forest management activities on private managed forest land.
