In the next week you may notice a change at the front of the Cultural Centre and Museum.
The wood gazebo will be removed due to its poor condition. The structure has been assessed and cannot cost-effectively be repaired.
As well, the nearby holly tree will be removed and replaced with a more suitable deciduous shade tree at a later date. While the holly tree is a remnant of the old original residential garden on the site, holly (Ilex aquifolium) is a very invasive species and is spread readily by birds eating the seeds. Holly outcompetes many of our west coast native plants in the forest and is on the list of the Invasive Species Council of BC.
