Beginning September 26, work will be progressing into the next block of Dunsmuir (between Second and Third streets). This continues the critical work underway to replace underground infrastructure along the main street, and is in addition to the existing road closure of Dunsmuir Avenue between Fourth Street and Fifth Street. It’s expected this portion of road will see intermittent closures for a month. Working along all three blocks rather than proceeding block-by-block will protect the existing in-ground infrastructure. Paving is scheduled to begin in late October.
The three trees that were identified for removal by the arborist earlier this summer (between Third and Fourth) have been removed. Village staff are working now to identify locations for the replacement trees.
The bus stop in front of the library continues to be affected by the closure and residents are advised to check with BC Transit for route updates.
During this time, vehicle traffic will be directed along Second Street to access the west end of Dunsmuir (turning off Cumberland Road at the Peace Park) or along Ulverston Ave. to access the east end of the main road.
The detour allows for easy access to all the areas of downtown Dunsmuir and surrounding recreation areas, which will remain open throughout this work.
