Cumberland Prepares for Heavy Rain

Posted on

Cumberland is expecting heavy rain and strong winds this Thursday to Saturday, October 13-15.

The Village of Cumberland is providing some sand and sandbags to residents for flood prevention. Residents who need sand this Thursday and Friday can inquire with Public Works 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. For the weekend, Public Works will be placing some sand and sand bags outside the Public Works gate at the bottom of First Street. There is no cost to access the bags and the sand, but residents should bring their own shovels.

Heavy rains can cause flooding from road runoff or sewers backing up. Residents can call the Public Works emergency number, 250-702-3737, to report after-hours and weekend emergencies.

Residents can help prevent flooding in their neighbourhoods by keeping catchbasins (storm drains) clear of leaves and debris.

Stay safe and dry this weekend!
