Recreational Fire Ban Lifted

Posted on

Effective immediately, backyard recreational fires are once again permitted throughout the Cumberland Fire Protection District. The campfire prohibition is being lifted due to cooler, wetter weather conditions.

Backyard recreational fires are allowed with a permit from the Village of Cumberland. Permits can be obtained at no charge from the Village Office, and an online permitting process will be available soon.

The public is reminded that recreational fires cannot be larger than a half-metre high by a half-metre wide. Anyone who lights a backyard fire must have a hand tool (such as a shovel) or at least eight litres of water available to fully extinguish it. Never leave a fire unattended and make sure that the ashes are completely cold to the touch before leaving the area for any length of time.

If you see a fire, please call 911. If you see a Forest Fire, please call *5555. To speak with the Village of Cumberland Fire Chief, call: (250) 336-2291.
