The Comox Valley Seniors’ Resource Expo gives you a chance to see and experience a wide range of supports available to seniors in the Comox Valley, discover new products or services and connect with friends and neighbours who care about helping seniors live their best lives.

The expo will feature displays by a variety of businesses and non-profit organizations, plus guest speakers throughout the day (see below for schedule). Light lunch items will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefitting the local chapter of Rebekah Lodge.

When: Saturday, February 25, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm

Where: Cumberland Cultural Centre (corner Dunsmuir & First)

Schedule of Guest Speakers

This event will feature a variety of informative presentations every half hour between 10:00 and 2:30. Plan your visit around the following presentations:

10:30 – Christopher Bate, Comox Valley Community Response Network

Chris will speak on abuse prevention and awareness among vulnerable adults. He will also speak on programs and services available to help in the community.


11:00 – Phil Adam, North Island Mobility

Phil will be speaking about fall prevention and how to make it easier to stay at home.


11:30 – Carol Ann Walker, Comox Valley Better at Home

Carol will be speaking on the non-medical services that Better at Home provides to help older adults stay independent in their homes, as well as volunteer opportunities for the whole community.


12:00 – Alice Russel, Natural Nutritionist

Alice will be speaking on ideas on how to make cooking easier, less work, and help you get the valuable nutrients you need. She will also speak of what happens when you don’t have proper nutrients for normal body functions.


12:30 – Paul Kurucz, Happy Soles Foot & Nail Care

Paul is a certified Podologist and will be speaking on foot care prevention and education for adults. He has a wealth of knowledge on just how important taking care of your feet is to overall health.


1:00 – Elisabeth Y Lee, Notary Public, and Stephanie Sorensen, IG Wealth Management

Elisabeth is a notary public here in Cumberland and Stephanie Sorensen, of IG Wealth Management, is a Registered Retirement Consultant. These ladies will be speaking about six essential elements of a holistic financial plan, beneficiary designation dos and don’ts, estate taxation, three important documents you need in your estate plan, and the need for an executor, attorney or guardian.

1:30 – Christopher Bate, Comox Valley Senior Support Society

Welcome back Christopher, who this time around will be representing the Comox Valley Senor Support Society and speaking about services they provide, such as Friendly Visiting, Caregiver Support Services and Caregiver Respite to name but a few.


2:00 – Carol Elliott, Saying Goodbye

Carol is an Ordained Metaphysical Minister-Certified life-cycle celebrant. She will be speaking about Walking Each other Home. Before Death and After Death is an assembly of Death Doulas and end-of Life Celebrants living and practicing in the Comox Valley. Their presentation will explore creating a Legacy story, the importance of funerals and the legal requirements of death.
