Yard Waste Burning Permits Now Available
Posted on
Apply for your permit at the Village office at no charge to burn yard waste from October 15 to November 30.
The Village is moving towards banning yard waste fires within the Village, and these regulations are set to change before the next yard waste burning period in March. Be sure to check back for updated outdoor burning regulations.
You can also dispose of yard waste every week with unlimited curbside collection of leaves, tree and shrub prunings, and grass clippings from your organics container.
Before your burn, check the venting index for a “good” or “fair” day on north Vancouver Island. Burn your fires hot and dry to help air quality.
Yard waste fires must:
- take place between sunrise to sunset and be fully extinguished at sunset,
- be no larger than 1 m in diameter,
- be supervised by an adult with a water hose and shovel close by, and
- be at least 3 m from standing timber, brush or any other flammable material, any property line, and Village property
The property owner’s signature is now required on your application.
