2020 Tax Rates on the Agenda

Posted on

Cumberland Council is holding a special Council meeting on Monday, May 4, 2020 at 2pm to discuss the implications of using “taxes from growth” to reduce 2020 tax rates.

“Taxes from growth” are property taxes collected from new subdivision and new construction. Council’s policy is to apply these “taxes from growth” to its “Emergency and Public Safety Reserve Fund”. The purpose of this reserve fund is to incrementally increase tax revenues using current plus previous years’ residential growth property taxes to pay for policing cost increases that will be payable when the Village reaches a population of 5,000.

Due to the Covid-19 response, the Council meeting will be held by video conference and lived streamed on Youtube.
