Cumberland Climbing Wall

The climbing wall is typically open from mid-October to the end of April. All climbers must sign a climbing waiver before climbing the wall. A climbing wall supervisor is present during Open Climbing sessions to ensure the safety and security of all climbers and climbing wall attendants are on hand to help belay. To maximize your time on the wall, it’s recommended you bring your own belay partner if possible, as wall attendants may be occupied with other climbers. If you would like to learn to belay, please take a Learn to Belay lesson offered approximately once a month (see the current rec guide for details).

Please note that the climbing wall is open from mid-October to the end of April each year. For specific opening dates and climbing times, please refer to the current recreation guide or call 250.336.2231.

Climbing Wall Drop-in Prices (effective September 1, 2024 – December 31, 2024)

Climbing is included with all Cumberland Recreation monthly and annual memberships.

Climbing Programs

We offer a selection of adult and youth climbing programs, including Learn to Belay sessions and our popular Junior Climbers program. For details, and to register online, visit our Recreation Programs page.

Private Group Sessions

Bring your business, class, school or community group for a two-hour, instructor-led session on our 26-foot indoor climbing wall. Your rental includes all climbing equipment and two climbing wall attendants to belay participants and ensure safety. Typical cost for a nonprofit organization booking the wall and gymnasium for two hours with two climbing attendants is $183.75 plus GST. Please book at least two weeks in advance. Climbing Wall Birthday Parties

This birthday is available for kids of all ages. The party includes the exclusive use of the gymnasium for two full hours, plus the climbing wall. We provide all the regular gym equipment (dodge balls, basketballs, hockey equipment and plasma cars) or tot toys (if 5 years and under). In addition, we provide two climbing wall attendants for two hours and all the climbing equipment you require (harnesses and shoes). In order for all participants to enjoy the climbing wall, we suggest you limit this party to 10 or 12 kids or request to hire additional climbing wall attendants. Participants (or parents/guardians if under 18) must complete and sign a climbing waiver before climbing. Parental supervision is required for all parties. Climbing birthday parties are available on select days/times October through April. Please be aware that parties tend to book up to two months in advance. $205 + GST
