Cumberland Recreation Wraps Up Several Key Projects

As summer draws to a close, revitalization projects at two of the Village’s most prominent recreation and culture facilities are also nearing completion.
In the Cumberland Recreation Centre, natural wood panelling has been installed on the upper interior walls of the gymnasium to complement similar panelling on the ceiling. The resulting space is warm, expansive and distinctly more modern. Staff and patrons are giving the update positive reviews. The project was fully funded through an insurance claim precipitated by water ingress into the building.
To reduce the likelihood of subsequent water issues, contractors recently finished applying spray-on weatherproofing to the Recreation Centre roof. This enhancement will improve both its durability and its appearance. If you have noticed that the bright blue roof seems even brighter lately, that’s why!
Across the street at the Cumberland Cultural Centre, new high-efficient LED lighting has been installed in Buchanan Hall. Funded in part by a BC Hydro grant, the updates are expected to reduce the hall’s energy consumption by 67 per cent. In addition to overall lighting improvements and added dimmability, several light switches have also been moved to more intuitive locations. Work at the Cultural Centre will continue into early September with the replacement of various exterior light fixtures. Meanwhile, the interior of Buchanan Hall is ready to shine for a busy schedule of Fall events!
