BC Hydro has upgraded the public warning system for high flows in the Puntledge River. Siren testing for the new system will take place on August 29 and 30.
The Puntledge River is the location of a BC Hydro hydroelectric system. Flow changes in the river can be dangerous to those on or near the river, and they may be planned or unplanned.
Residents are advised to stay away from Puntledge River from Comox Dam to Nymph Falls on August 29, and from Stotan Falls to Puntledge Park on August 30 for the siren testing.
Upgrades to the warning system include a new siren sound, strobe lights, and upgraded water gauges. The new siren will be easier to hear on the river, but is intended to reduce disturbance to nearby residents. Further testing will take place later this year.
