Celebrate Dunsmuir Avenue as the Heart of the Community for Heritage Week

Posted on

Celebrate BC Heritage Week from February 16 to 22 with recognition of Dunsmuir Avenue as the heart of the community and the centre of Cumberland’s vibrant downtown. This is the theme for Heritage Week 2015 in British Columbia, Main Street: At The Heart of the Community.

Main Streets and traditional downtowns are at the heart of communities big and small across British Columbia. Centres of commerce, civic institutions, community commemoration and events, Main Streets embody the history and evolution of a community.

In the community’s 2014 official community plan, Cumberland established Dunsmuir Avenue as the historic Village commercial core and designated this area as a Heritage Conservation Area. Celebrate Cumberland’s past and help support future successes through heritage conservation and downtown revitalization.

This February, Cumberland is also submitting an application to Building Canada’s Small Communities Program for a $2.77 million project to upgrade and renew underground services though the Dunsmuir corridor, including storm and sanitary sewers and water mains.

You can also celebrate Heritage Week at the e Cumberland Museum and Archives Heritage Fair on February 21, 2015 from 10 am to 4 pm at the CRI.
