Chinatown and Chinese Cemetery Nominated to the Chinese Historic Places Recognition Project

Posted on

The Village will recognize Cumberland’s historic Chinatown and the Chinese Cemetery as historic places associated with the history of the Chinese community in British Columbia that are important to our community.

The Chinese Historic Places Recognition Project will serve as an opportunity to celebrate British Columbia’s diversity, and recognize and acknowledge the contributions of Chinese Canadians in British Columbia – both past and present – to the prosperity and diversity of the province. The Chinese Historic Places Recognition Project is an outcome of the Chinese Historical Wrongs Consultation, where many participants expressed the hope that Chinese Canadian cultural history could be preserved in perpetuity.
