Council Approves Development Permit for 2679 Beaufort Avenue

Posted on

A development permit has been approved for Phase I of a new commercial development near First and Dunsmuir Avenue. The project is located behind the Cultural Centre on the “old school” site at 2679 Beaufort Avenue.

The overall plan for the project consists of two development permit phases, with two retail/office buildings in the first phase and one building in the second phase. The development permit authorized on February 25, 2019 is for the first phase only. The property is zoned Village Commercial Mixed Use in the 2016 Zoning Bylaw. Construction of new structures also require building permits.

A development permit for commercial development is intended to promote a high standard of design in new commercial projects, contributing to a comfortable and welcoming streetscape. Development permit guidelines are established in the Part D of the Official Community Plan and address site design, landscaping, accessibility, building form and character, signs, lighting, access and parking, energy conservation and reduction of greenhouse gases, water conservation, stormwater, and soil erosion and sediment control.

Find out more about the project by viewing the site plans for the project and the staff report in the February 25, 2019 Council meeting agenda.
