Posted on

The Village of Cumberland is flying the Canadian Red Ensign over the Village office this week to recognize Merchant Navy Day on September 3.

The Merchant Navy served with the convoys in the North Atlantic during the Second World War. The life expectancy of a Merchant Navy seaman was one in four, the highest casualty rate of all the services.

Ex-Merchant Navy personnel from any Commonwealth country and any interested citizens are welcome to attend the laying of the wreath in honour of the Merchant Navy at the Comox cenotaph on September 3, 2019 at 11 am.
