Help Stop Illegal Dumping

Posted on

Help spread the word that the most common items found at illegal dump sites could have been recycled or disposed of for little to no cost at waste facilities.

There is no fee for these items at the Waste Management Centre on Bevan Road:

  • grass and leaves
  • appliances without Freon
  • old tires without rims
  • metal (and items with 50% or more metal)
  • household hazardous waste, such as motor oil, filters, paint, solvents and other chemicals

These items may be disposed of for a small fee of $10:

  • up to six bags of garbage (approximately 100kg)
  • up to 100kg of yard waste and invasive species
  • furniture weighing less than 100kg

Appliances with Freon can be disposed of for only $15.

To report an illegal dump site, or someone improperly disposing of materials, call 1-800-331-6007 or report online at www.cswm.ca. You can also report dump sites in the Village of Cumberland directly to the Village office at 250-336-2291. Find out more on preventing illegal dumping through the Comox Strathcona Illegal Dumping Program.
