Huge amounts of Scotch broom were removed from the Cumberland Cemetery, Chinese Cemetery, Japanese Cemetery and No. 1 Japanese Town at Coal Creek Historic Park over the past two weeks by volunteers from Comox Valley Broombusters, Cumberland Rotary Centennial and the community.
There were 26 people out to cut broom at the cemeteries. Volunteers had cut all of the broom around the Cumberland cemetery by 10:30 and after a short break headed over to the Japanese and Chinese cemeteries and cut more broom there.
The following weekend 28 people turned out to cut broom at the No. 1 Japanese Townsite in Coal Creek Historic Park . The park itself is now free of broom and we were able to cut some of the broom around the coal hills adjacent to the park.Search again
