Trail Closure – Northern Portion of ‘Short n’ Curly’ Decommissioned
Posted on
The Village of Cumberland has made the decision to close the northern portion of the trail Short n’ Curly indefinitely due to safety concerns related to the northwest bridge crossing. The bridge contained significant rot, was structurally unstable, slick in wet weather, and had a difficult alignment. Alternate bridge locations for a replacement crossing were sought but due to challenging topography no solutions could be found that would have been cost effective while respecting environmental best practices for creek crossings and riparian areas.
A new bridge crossing was built on the southeast portion of the trail in the summer of 2022. This crossing and trail section will remain open to the public and will continue to receive maintenance services. A Trailforks map of the new alignment is included below. This new bridge crossing and the bridge decommission were detailed in the Village’s Interim Trail Management Strategy from 2021 that was worked on collaboratively with community partners.
