Ulverston Avenue Watermain and Sidewalk

This page was last reviewed on February 24, 2026.

Construction is starting in February 2026 to construct a sidewalk along Ulverston Avenue from Fifth Street to Tenth Street.

Additional pedestrian safety enhancements have been added to the project scope to provide:

  • raised continuous crosswalks at the intersections of Ulverston and Eighth, Ninth and Tenth Streets.
  • redesign of the intersection of Ulverston and Mill Street to intersect in a perpendicular manner for better sight lines for motorists and to shorten the crossing distance for pedestrians.

Council also approved additional project scope to include approximately 240m of new watermain between Fifth Street and Mill Street to partially complete the W5 Watermain Upgrade project outlined in the Development Cost Charge Background Report from July 2022. https://cumberland.ca/dcc/ This will make the most efficient use of construction crews and to avoid having to return to the area in future years to complete the work which would require removing sections of the sidewalk being constructed.
