Update: Comox Lake Wildfire Being Held
Posted on
As of today July 23, 2025 the wildfire at Comox Lake is presently listed as ‘Being Held,’ which is defined as a wildfire that is projected, based on fuel and weather conditions and resource availability, to remain within the current perimeter, control line or boundary.
The Village of Cumberland would like to extend its gratitude to BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) for working throughout the previous days and nights to help bring the fire under control and protect our communities.
Please see the latest update from BCWS below;
- This fire was reported to BCWS in the afternoon of July 21, and BCWS responded quickly with Initial Attack crews, helicopters and air tankers. Crews worked overnight from July 21 to 22 and a unit crew was assigned yesterday and made good progress.
- The fire size has been updated to 5.6 hectares which reflects more accurate tracking, rather than growth.
- The status of this fire is now ‘Being Held,’ which means a wildfire that is projected, based on fuel and weather conditions and resource availability, to remain within the current perimeter, control line or boundary.
- A 22-person unit crew and Initial attack crew are assigned to the fire today. Aviation support is available if required.
- Fire behaviour remains low, mainly a smoldering ground fire with no open flame.
- Smoke may still be visible from the Comox Valley.
- The fire does not currently pose a risk to structures, critical infrastructure or public safety; however, we ask that people steer clear of the active work site.
