Village Council awards $10,000 in Community Grants

Cumberland Mayor and Council selected five community organizations as this year’s recipients of its annual Community Grant Program at the March 9 Regular Council meeting. The recipients include:
- Comox Valley Family Services Association: $3,000 to host an “Honouring Our Community” Indigenous peoples and early years family event, scheduled for Fall 2026.
- Cumberland & District Historical Society: $1,200 in seed funding for a Mini Museum Explorers program for children five and under.
- Cumberland Community Schools Society: $2,000 in seed funding for a Youth Barista Training after-school program that will also feature pop-up cafes.
- Cumberland Culture & Arts Society: $2,000 for the creation of large, portable “Art Walls” to be displayed during cultural events.
- Weird Church Cumberland: $1,800 to support the replacement of the roof of the Weird Church’s building.
The Community Grant Program provides up to $10,000 each year for special projects and seed funding to community organizations that provide social, cultural, recreational and environmental services that benefit the residents of Cumberland. Special events held primarily for Cumberland residents are also eligible. This year the Village received seven complete applications, representing a total of $24,600 in requested funding.
