Landfill Project Underway
Posted on
The first phase of the Comox Strathcona waste management landfill closure project is well underway at the Bevan Road landfill in Cumberland. Latest news includes:
- installation of geomembrane cover to prevent ground water contamination
- installation of landfill gas management system and a gas flare
This project has been approved in the Comox Strathcona Waste Management Solid Waste Services Management Plan along with construction of a new engineering landfill at the Comox Valley waste management centre on Bevan Road in Cumberland. This facility will serve the region for the next 20 years. Follow the CSWM website to stay informed on progress of the entire project including newsletters and updates.
The existing landfill, along with the Campbell River landfill, will be closed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to prevent environmental impacts. The landfill closures support environmental compliance regulations addressing landfill leachate and landfill gas management.
