Mail Ballot Voting is also available for the election. Applications to vote by mail ballot are available at cumberland.ca and at the Village office at 2673 Dunsmuir Avenue during regular business hours and must be submitted to the Village office by 4:00 p.m. on September 13, 2024. In order to be counted in the election, your mail ballot must be received by the Chief Election Officer no later than 8 p.m. on General Voting Day on September 21, 2024.

ELECTOR REGISTRATION, QUALIFICATIONS and REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

To vote as an elector of the Village of Cumberland you do not have to pre-register to vote. Elector registration takes place at the time of voting.

At the time of voting, please bring your identification to the voting place. Resident electors must produce two pieces of identification, at least one with a signature. Picture identification is not necessary. The identification must prove both residency and identity. Resident electors do not need to own property to vote.

You will also be required to make a declaration that you meet the following requirements:

  • 18 years of age or older on general voting day
    Canadian citizen
  • resident of BC for at least 6 months immediately preceding the day of registration
  • resident of the Village of Cumberland on the day of registration OR, if a non-resident property elector, a registered owner of real property in the Village of Cumberland for at least 30 days immediately preceding the day of registration, and
  • not disqualified under the Local Government Act or any other enactment from voting in an election or otherwise disqualified by law.

Non-resident property electors who do not reside in Cumberland must produce 2 pieces
of identification at least one with a signature to prove identity, proof that they are entitled to register in relation to the property, and if there is more than one owner of the property written consent from the majority of the property owners. You may call the Village office 250-336-2291 to arrange the necessary documents in advance of voting day.
