Regional Warming Centres May Be Activated This Weekend

Posted on

With temperatures once again dropping, particularly with the anticipated wind chills, there is potential for the Cumberland warming centre at the Cultural Centre and other regional warming centres to be opened this weekend.

Check for updates at Comox Valley Warming Centres webpage.

Provincial funding has been authorized for the activation of warming centres in the region and, on the recommendation of Comox Valley Emergency Management (CVEM), the warming centre at the Cultural Centre may be activated on Saturday and, if necessary, Sunday night in Buchanan Hall, first floor of the Cumberland Cultural Centre. Warming centre hours would be 10:00 pm to 6:00 am.

Warming centres are a provincially funded resource intended to provide a dry, safe space for local residents who need to escape the cold. They offer seating, snacks, washrooms, security, and cleaning services but do not provide sleeping areas, cots, or mats.

For more information about warming centres, including the locations of other activations in the Comox Valley, please refer to the CVRD Warming Centres webpage.
