Council Agrees to Join Class Action Lawsuit to Recover Climate Costs
Posted on
In June, Council received a delegation on the role of the fossil fuel industry in climate change. The delegation requested that Council join with other local governments to file a class action lawsuit to recover a fair share of climate costs to the Village, and to allocate at least $1 per resident towards a fund for the lawsuit.
Council considered the request at its meeting on June 24 and committed to joining in the class action lawsuit. Council referred the financial commitment to its 2025 budget meetings which will take place in October 2024. You can view the delegation presentation and Council discussion in the Council live streams for meetings on June 10 and June 24.
Council’s budget workshop meetings are scheduled for October 7, 15 and 21, all starting at 5:30 pm in the Village Council Chamber. The meetings are open to the public. Public consultation on the 2025 budget is scheduled for November 18.
