Strategically located in the beautiful Comox Valley on Vancouver Island, the Village of Cumberland (cumberland.ca) is a progressive and growing municipality known for its unique mixture of heritage architecture, proximity to outstanding outdoor recreation and world-class arts and music. Home to 3800 residents, Cumberland is the youngest and fastest growing municipality in the Comox Valley, with the number of children under 15 years of age above both the provincial and federal average.
The Village has experienced significant growth in recent years, with 1300 Cumberland residents having moved to the community between 2011 and 2016. The Official Community Plan indicates that known development could bring more that 4,000 new housing units in future years, and that the population could reach 8,500 by 2030.
Recognizing the impact of this growth the Village is looking to attract a progressive and accomplished professional as its Senior Planner. Reporting to the Manager of Development Services, the Senior Planner is responsible for providing factual information regarding planning processes, applications in process, and application requirements. The Senior Planner will provide interpretations, assessments and evaluations of bylaws, policies, merits of development proposals and other technical and policy matters regarding planning.
The position will ensure the development and implementation of the Official Community Plan, Zoning and other planning related bylaws, studies and policies meet expectations of Management, along with the planning, development, implementation and monitoring of heritage, sustainability projects or initiatives, conceptual parks planning and the processing of development applications.
To qualify you will have a University Degree in Land Use Planning or a related discipline, along with a minimum five years of experience in the community planning field with related experience at a supervisory level in a local government setting. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
