Forest Fire Prevention and Reporting
Posted on
With summer temperatures rising, Cumberland Fire Rescue is reminding Cumberland residents to be cautious and vigilant summer, both in town and in the forest.
Please keep your eyes open for smoke in our surrounding forests. Reporting fires early is key to wildfire suppression and keeping the Village safe. Report forest fires immediately to 911 or to *5555 on your cell phone.
- For your campfire or backyard recreational fire use a screen of 9.5 mm (3/8 inch) or smaller mesh to restrict any sparks or flying debris, have your campfire in a fire ring, and keep it small – less than 0.5m in diameter
- Please do not smoke in parks, trails, or anywhere in the forests
- Cool hot motors and wheel bearings before storing away, including chainsaws and lawnmowers
- Distinguish cigarettes completely in a fire proof container at home
Please watch cumberland.ca for possible campfire and recreational fire bans. A permit is required for recreational fires.
