Gymnasium access to be limited in July
Posted on
As patrons of the Cumberland Recreation Centre gymnasium are aware, the upper interior wall panels were removed from the gymnasium last summer as part of an insurance claim stemming from a water ingress issue. With repairs to the roof beginning this week, work will also begin July 6 to replace the gymnasium wall panels. While this project has been highly anticipated, it will also cause some service disruptions for approximately one month to those who frequent the gymnasium.
How access to the gymnasium will be affected:
On Monday, July 6, the gymnasium will be closed. All gymnasium-based programs will be cancelled.
From July 7 until approximately August 7, staff will endeavor to keep one half of the gymnasium open at all times. Drop-in programs will continue to be offered at their regular times, with the understanding that only half of the gymnasium will be available and there may be noise and other construction-related distractions from the other half of the room. There may be brief periods within that timeframe that the gymnasium must be closed entirely, but staff will strive to keep those disruptions to a minimum and give patrons as much notice as possible.
All registered programs are expected to continue to run, albeit with some modifications. Anyone enrolled in a gymnasium-based program during between July 6 and August 7 will receive an email with information on how their program will be impacted.
No other facilities will be affected. The Cumberland Cultural Centre, fitness studio and squash courts will all remain open as per usual.
