Heat Warning in Effect – As of August 7, 2024

Posted on

Environment Canada has issued a ‘Heat Warning’ for east Vancouver Island, including Cumberland, beginning August 7th. The event is expected to last this week.

Comox Valley Emergency Management will provide regional outreach services for sharing preparedness information, directing public to cooling spaces/options and offering cooling services to CV community members and locations at risk and/or vulnerable, from 12 pm to 8 pm. As part of this, cooling services providers have or are being activated to support Mobile Regional Heat Outreach Services (teams that travel through the region checking in on vulnerable unhoused or at risk populations.)

For a list of Cooling Centres in the Comox Valley, see the Comox Valley Emergency Management Cooling Spaces webpage available at www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/coolingspaces. In Cumberland, these locations include the VIRL Library during regular operating hours, and the Village Park splash park (10am-6pm, daily).
