Invasive plant treatments ongoing in the Village

Residents are advised that crews are currently working in the Village to remove invasive plants from Village parks, trails and roadsides. The focus of these activities will be on Japanese Knotweed, although lamium near the entrance to the Cumberland Community Forest will also be targeted.
Herbicide is being used where required, and will be applied using the current best practices, including stem injection treatments that target individual plants and minimize effects on surrounding species.
Residents are reminded that cutting, mowing and/or brushing of knotweed is not an effective way of removing the aggressive plant and is likely to further compound the problem. The Village of Cumberland has teamed up with neighbouring municipalities and partnered with the Coastal Invasive Species Committee on this program.
