Minto Road West of Parkway Renamed Memorial Way

A section of of Minto Road west of the Comox Valley Parkway has been renamed Memorial Way in honour of the generations of Cumberlanders who rest in the Cumberland Cemetery, which is located on that 500m stretch of road. The old Minto Road that heads east towards Royston will remain as Minto Road.
The renamed road was originally part of the old Cumberland Road to Courtenay before the Inland Island Highway was built in the 1990s.
The ortho photo below shows the old Cumberland Road passing by the historic Protestant Cemetery and Catholic Cemetery, as well as the Chinese Cemetery and Japanese Cemetery, which are located on today’s Union Road.
