Posted on

Annual increases to parks and recreation fees, including admission rates for the Cumberland Recreation Centre, will come into effect on January 1, 2026.

You can view all parks and recreation fees in the 2024 Parks and Recreation Fees Bylaw.

View the Recreation Centre admission rates.

Key highlights for individual patrons:

  • Admission and membership fees are increasing approximately 7% each year through in order to make up for several years of stagnant fees
  • Monthly memberships remain 10x the cost of a single admission; annual memberships remain 6x the cost of a monthly membership
  • All memberships purchased before January 1, 2026 are subject to the current fees
  • Fees for instructed classes and other registered programs are not affected by the bylaw

Key highlights for user groups:

  • All park and facility bookings for dates in 2026 and later are subject to 2026 fees
  • Fees for individual sports fields have not changed, but changes may be considered as part of the ongoing regional sports field allocation study

Why are our fees changing?

Parks and Recreation are essential public services that benefit both individuals and the community; as such, they are funded through a combination of taxation and user fees. Before the Parks and Recreation Fees Bylaw was updated in 2024, fees hadn’t changed since 2019. A lot has changed since then, not the least of which was significantly high consumer price index (CPI) increases, which in turn led to increases in the costs to operate services in the Parks & Recreation department.

The updated Parks & Recreation fees are intended to catch the Village’s fees up to the rising cost of goods and services over the previous five years, as well as keep pace over the next five years, in order to continue providing the services our community enjoys while remaining responsible to Cumberland taxpayers.
