Perseverance Creek Debris Removal

The Village is proceeding with plans to remove the damaged Perseverance Creek trail bridge, log jam and other debris from a channel of Perseverance Creek in Cumberland Community Forest Park. The work is intended to reduce the risk of a sudden release of backed-up water and debris that could damage the groundwater well and other nearby Village infrastructure.
Debris removal will commence in early October and is funded by the Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness. Environmental permitting and monitoring, cultural monitoring, and hydrotechnical consulting will also fall within the scope of this work.
Over the past several months, the Village completed a Flood Risk Assessment to evaluate the risks associated with the creek diverting into new channels. The work to remove the bridge is a short term recommendation of the report. For more information and background, please see the September 28th 2026 Committee of the Whole agenda.
The Village will continue to monitor the creek and its evolution through the fall and winter.
During this time, park users – including disc golfers and trail users – are asked to continue to exercise extra caution near Perseverance Creek during medium to high water levels. Conditions can change quickly during and after heavy rainfall. Please keep back from creek banks, avoid flooded areas and follow posted closures and directions.
