Protect Your Home From Wildfire

Posted on

Reduce the hazard of wildfire to your home by taking preventative steps found in the BC FireSmart manual on the Fire Protection Services page. You may also pick up a copy at the Village office.

The Village is also taking steps to prepare for wildfire. Cumberland Fire Rescue is now equipped with a “structural protection unit” trailer to help protect residential areas in case of a wildfire in the forests surrounding Cumberland. This unit is deployed during an interface fire. It contain equipment and supplies to dampen roofs and areas around structures in order to prevent sparks or embers from igniting structural fires. These trailer units are easily moved anywhere in the community.

Cumberland Fire Rescue volunteers are also continuing their wildfire training and the Village has also developed an evacuation plan in the event that areas of the Village are at risk from wildfire.
