Regional Warming Centres to be Activated

Posted on

With overnight temperatures remaining low this weekend, with the chance of additional winter weather, provincial funding has been authorized for the activation of warming centres in the region.

Upon the recommendation of Comox Valley Emergency Management (CVEM), Village staff have approved such an activation for Saturday and Sunday night in Buchanan Hall, first floor of the Cumberland Cultural Centre. The warming centre will open at 11:00 pm Saturday and 10:00 pm Sunday, running until 6:00 am the following morning in both cases.

Check for updates at CVRD Warming Centres webpage.

Warming centres are a provincially funded resource intended to provide a dry, safe space for local residents who need to escape the cold. They offer seating, snacks, washrooms, security, and cleaning services but do not provide sleeping areas, cots, or mats.

For more information about warming centres, including the locations of other activations in the Comox Valley, please refer to the CVRD Warming Centres webpage.
