Share Your Opinion: Should Cumberland Prohibit Land-Clearing Fires?

Posted on

Council is considering prohibiting most land-clearing fires in Cumberland. This would not affect recreational burning permits.

Current regulations allow land-clearing fires in Cumberland with a permit, fee, and Manager of Protective Services approval. The proposed regulations would prohibit land-clearing fires in Cumberland, except those that are forestry-related and on private managed forest land. Municipalities do not have the authority to ban forestry activities. The bylaw would still allow the Village to burn for municipal purposes.

As part of the public bylaw process, residents are invited to give feedback on the proposed changes via online survey, open until 4pm on August 4, 2017.
