More Forestry Slash Piles to be Burned in November

Posted on

Residents are advised that open burning of forestry slash piles in areas of north of Cumberland along Bevan Road will take place in November if the weather, wind and venting index conditions are suitable.

With recent rain the ground is wet and suitable for burning. Hancock Timber Resource crews will monitor the burning with the assistance of the Cumberland Fire Department.

Local governments in BC have limited control over forest management activities on private managed forest land. Hancock Timber Management is cooperating with the Village by burning this slash debris in the fall and winter months to help reduce the risk of summer forest fires, which could be a more serious threat to the community.

Please call the Village Fire Department at 250-336-2531 for more information on open burning in the Village.
