Snowfall Success
Posted on
The Village has survived the first snowfall of 2024! As public works cleared the roads, they noticed that most of the sidewalks had been cleared as well. Thank You!
Just a reminder that the Village has a priority map for clearing the roads. First up are the main routes and then bus routes and school zones, then hills and then everything else. To ensure we can plow your road effectively please try not to have vehicles parked on the road during snowfalls or if this cannot be helped, then as far off the travelled portion of the road as possible. This ensures snow clearing equipment can get by.
We know that having your driveway snowed back in after the plow has gone by is frustrating. A tip to avoid this is to shovel a bit of the upstream section of the road when you are clearing your driveway, so that the snow doesn’t carry as much across the top of your driveway.
The Village has recently changed to a liquid brine system for ice and snow control. This not only provides better coverage of the road but also enables us to pre-wet the street prior to snowfall which reduces the stickiness of compact snow and allows for easier snow removal. It also increases road safety as it helps control the icing of the roads that can happen overnight. Click here for more details on Snow and Ice Control.
There is more snow predicted for next week. Keep up the great work!
