Solid Waste Collection Switching to “Add-A-Day” System in 2022

Posted on

In 2022, the Village will switch to the “add-a-day” system for curbside solid waste collection to get in step with other communities in the Comox Valley.

The add-a-day system will advance collection by one day after each statutory holiday.

While residents may find the system takes some effort to get used to, it is expected it will help improve the collection service. This system allows the collection contractor to accommodate closure days at the waste management centre, to align collection days in other communities, and to make for more effective allocation of labour and resources to all communities in the region.

The Village recognizes the challenges solid waste collection has posed to residents and businesses over the past few years due to collector changes and labour shortages. By working cooperatively with other regional local governments, the Village hopes that the service will improve.

Cumberland residents can expect to see the new 2022 “add-a-day” schedule in your mail box in coming days. The first add-a-day takes place in February 2022 after the Family Day holiday.
