The Village Stands with the K’ómoks First Nation Against Hate Speech
Posted on
In solidarity with the K’ómoks First Nation and families and victims of violence against Indigenous women and girls, the Village of Cumberland takes a stance against any kind of offensive speech, including hate speech and discriminatory speech, that makes light of crimes committed against Indigenous women, targets Indigenous identity, and that perpetuate stereotypes and discrimination against women. We stand by the K’ómoks First Nation and the First Nations Leadership Council to condemn harmful content referencing the murder victims of a notorious serial killer, that is being promoted in the name of comedy.
Cumberland Council is committed to meaningful reconciliation with Indigenous peoples and actions that support a diverse and healthy community. The Cumberland community is encouraged to add their voices of support.
