Cumberland, BC – The Village of Cumberland is pleased to announce that Michelle Mason has accepted the position of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). Mason had been acting as interim CAO following the resignation of Clayton Postings in April 2022.
Mason is well known to Council, staff and the Cumberland community, having lived in Cumberland for over 26 years and having worked for the Village since 2009. Mason is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and her professional experience includes over 14 years working in local and First Nation governments, including time with the City of Campbell River and Qualicum First Nation, and work as controller with local credit unions. Prior to her appointment as CAO, Mason held the position of Chief Financial Officer as well as Deputy CAO with the Village of Cumberland.
“Council is very pleased to have Michelle continue her service to the Village as chief administrative officer,” said Mayor Leslie Baird. “We know that Michelle is committed to the Village and has the experience, qualifications and knowledge of the community to succeed in this new role.”
As CAO, Mason will be responsible for managing the community’s constantly changing and increasingly complex day-to-day affairs while acting as key advisor and liaison to Council. Mason’s professional knowledge and experience, along with an intimate understanding of Cumberland, will ensure that the organization continues to move forward on Council and community priorities.
“I look forward to continuing to work for the Council to support long term strategic planning and provide strong leadership for the organization,” said Mason. “We’ve seen significant change in the Village over the past few years and I hope to offer a steady helm as we continue to implement Council’s goals and improve and expand community services and infrastructure.”
